Description:
A defibrillator is a medical device used to terminate fatal arrhythmias such as ventricular fibrillation and ventricular flutter. It releases a certain amount of energy of electric shock to the heart, causing the electrical activity of myocardial cells to depolarize instantly and simultaneously, eliminating arrhythmias and restoring normal sinus rhythm.

Operation steps of the defibrillator:
1. Turn on the power: Press the power button to ensure that the device is in normal working condition.
2. Select energy: For manual defibrillators, medical staff will select the appropriate shock energy based on factors such as the patient's weight and type of arrhythmia.
3. Apply conductive paste: Apply conductive paste evenly on the electrode plate to reduce skin resistance and ensure that the current can be effectively conducted.
4. Place the electrode plate: Place one electrode plate on the patient's apex (5th-6th intercostal space on the left anterior axillary line) and the other on the 2nd intercostal space on the right edge of the sternum.
5. Charge: Press the charge button to charge the defibrillator to the set energy.
6. Confirm the safety of people around: shout "Everyone leave" loudly to ensure that no one comes into contact with the patient.
7. Discharge: Press the discharge button to deliver an electric shock.

 

Precautions:
1. Before operation:
Make sure the patient removes metal objects on the body, such as necklaces, bracelets, watches, etc., to avoid local skin burns;
Check whether the defibrillator has sufficient power and whether the lead wires and electrode pads are well connected;
Confirm that the patient is in a supine position and the body does not touch the surrounding metal objects.
2. During operation:
The electrode pad should be in close contact with the skin without leaving any gaps, and the conductive paste should be evenly applied to ensure good current conduction;
During discharge, the operator and other personnel must not touch the patient and the bed to avoid electric shock;
During the defibrillation process, the patient's vital signs and ECG monitoring should be closely observed.
3. After operation:
Observe the patient's heart rhythm recovery and evaluate the defibrillation effect;
Clean the electrode pads and organize the defibrillator to keep it in standby mode.
