The main components of an ECG include the P wave, which represents the electrical activation of the atria; the QRS complex, indicating the depolarization of the ventricles; and the T wave, reflecting the repolarization of the ventricles.
ECG is widely used in diagnosing various heart conditions such as arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms), myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart blockages, and other cardiovascular disorders.

1. Preparation:
1) Make sure the electrocardiograph is in normal working condition, fully charged, and the lead wires are well connected.
) Let the patient lie flat on the examination bed, stay relaxed, and expose the chest, wrists, and ankles.
2. Place the electrodes:
1) Clean the patient's skin where the electrodes are placed to reduce resistance and interference.
2) Place the limb electrodes in the standard position:
Right upper limb (RA): located on the outside of the right subclavian fossa, close to the shoulder.
Left upper limb (LA): located on the outside of the left subclavian fossa, close to the shoulder.
Right lower limb (RL): located in the right lower abdomen.
Left lower limb (LL): located in the left lower abdomen.
3) Place the chest lead electrodes:
V1: located at the 4th intercostal space on the right edge of the sternum.
V2: located at the 4th intercostal space on the left edge of the sternum.
V3: located at the midpoint of the line connecting V2 and V4.
V4: located at the intersection of the left midclavicular line and the 5th intercostal space.
V5: Located at the same level as V4 on the left anterior axillary line.
V6: Located at the same level as V4 on the left mid-axillary line.
3. Set parameters:
1) Set appropriate gain, filtering and other parameters according to the patient's condition.
2) Select the recording speed, usually 25mm/s or 50mm/s.
4. Start recording:
After confirming that the electrodes are placed correctly and in good contact, start the ECG machine for recording. Let the patient stay quiet, breathe steadily, and avoid moving the body.
5. End recording:
After recording is completed, stop the ECG machine and carefully remove the electrodes to avoid pulling the skin.
6. Data analysis and printing:
Check the recorded ECG waveform and analyze whether there is any abnormality. If necessary, print the ECG report for the doctor's diagnosis.item | value |
